Most of us have a rough idea of where our major organs like hearts, lungs, brain and intestines are and their function, but what about all the other internal bits and pieces?
Like the spleen – most us know roughly where it is but does anyone know what it does?
When I started my Nutritional Medicine degree, I had a basic understanding of most of the major organs but really didn’t know much about the minor or less discussed bits and pieces like the endocrine system (glands like the pancreas, thyroid and adrenal to name a few), or the spleen!
Over the next three years my knowledge grew and I came to appreciate how wonderful our bodies are and that we need to care of them.
Now, I don’t have a Medical degree and I’m not a doctor. I’m sure all the doctors out there reading my blog will pick holes in my posts and that’s fine. I’m happy to be corrected where necessary.
Over the next few weeks I will be looking at a different organ, gland or process that hopefully will help clarify the where, what and how.
- Where – location of the organ or gland
- What – what does it do? What can go wrong?
- How – can I support its function?
I’d love to hear from you and hope you find these posts useful and lead to get a greater appreciation of the miracle of life.
Lets start with the spleen!
I could use more knowledge on the organs! 😊

Thanks for reading and commenting. If you have any requests for a particular organ/system let me know. Appendix is next and then the thyroid.
